On Thursday (4 September 2025) in Afghanistan, the earthquake tremors were felt once again. According to the National Center for Sisamology (NCS), this shock was of 4.8 intensity on the Richter scale and its depth was measured 135 kilometers. The earthquake occurred when the country felt another shock late on Wednesday night. The intensity of the earthquake was recorded at 4.3 on the Richter scale and its depth was only 10 kilometers.
Constant tremors have further increased the anxiety and fear of the people in the affected areas. Experts say that earthquakes that occur in such a short interval can be a sign of afterchox (post -earthquake shock). The effect of the earthquake depends not only on its intensity, but also on its depth. Wednesday’s earthquake was close to the surface with a 10 -km depth, so its effect was felt more. The 135 -kilometer depth earthquake was deep than before, so its effect may decrease on the surface, but such shocks reflect the severity of seismic activity.

Regional impact and apprehension
Afghanistan is a sensitive area in terms of seismic activity. Small and big shocks keep coming here from time to time. The earthquake increases cracks in houses, panic and security concerns in local population. Experts believe that such frequent activity may also be a sign of the possibility of large earthquake.
Death toll beyond 1 thousand
The death toll in the most devastating earthquake in Afghanistan has reached beyond thousand. A spokesperson of the Taliban government said on Tuesday that the death toll in the fierce earthquake in East Afghanistan has exceeded 1,400.
