The Champions League T20 tournament was last played in 2014, in which Chennai Super Kings won the title. Now after 12 years, the Champions League is going to return. According to the cricbing, the return of the Champions League has been approved in the recently concluded ICC’s annual conference. The team playing in different countries’ Domestic T20 Franchise League will participate in the Champions League Return. If everything goes well, the Champions League can be organized next year.
According to the report, the International Cricket Board can soon hold a meeting to prepare the Champions League T20 outline. Bringing teams of franchise league of different countries can be quite complex tasks, so a separate board or governing council can be formed to operate the Champions League as before.
Another big challenge in organizing the Champions League can be how a large scale the tournament will be held. The outline of T20 franchise cricket has changed in the last 10 years, as associate countries like USA, Nepal, Canada and UAE are also operating their franchise leagues. Currently, 11 cricket leagues, including IPL, The Hundred and Big Bash, have made a mark around the world. Apart from these, different countries have started their leagues.
The Champions T20 League will be organized at what time in the year, it will also be a big question. In March-May, IPL is organized, while now the schedule of cricket is such that there is some ICC tournament almost every year. If the Champions League returns next year, then there will be 2026 T20 World Cup during the February-March month, after that the IPL will start. On the other hand, there will also be a schedule of the World Test Championship, in such a situation, it will be very difficult to choose the right time for organizing the Champions League.
