The BCCI will register a ‘tough protest’ against Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Asian Cricket Council, at the next ICC meeting in November. Naqvi did not give the trophy to the champion team after the Indian team refuses to take the Asia Cup trophy in Dubai.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia justified the team’s refusal and said that the Indian team cannot take a trophy from anyone who is ‘waging war against the country’. India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final.
Naqvi is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and is also the Home Minister of her country. Saikia said, “As far as the trophy is concerned, the trophy distribution is concerned, India cannot take a trophy from the person who is waging war against our country.”
He said, “We refused to take the trophy from him but this does not allow the person to take the trophy and medal to his hotel.” He said, “It is unpredictable, it is very childish and we will register a lot of protests before the ICC in the upcoming ICC meeting to be held in Dubai in the first week of November.”
What did captain Suryakumar Yadav say
Captain Suryakumar Yadav said on this whole issue, that the victorious team is remembered and not the trophy. Suryakumar said in the press conference after the match, “I have never seen the trophy to the victorious team, but for me my player and colleague staff is the real trophy.”
The Indian team did not join hands with Pakistani players throughout the tournament. India played three matches with Pakistan in the tournament and won all three.
Suryakumar later wrote on X, “After the match is over, only the champions are remembered, not the picture of the trophy.” On the team’s refusal to take the trophy from Naqvi, he said, “We took this decision on the field. Nobody had asked us to do this. ”
