A period of instability continued in Bangladesh for 18 months.
After the student movement in August 2024, there was a period of instability in Bangladesh for the last 18 months. The student movement had ousted the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power in Bangladesh, after which he has taken political asylum in India. During this period, Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus took over the interim power of the country in Bangladesh.
However, during the interim rule of Yunus, people with fundamentalist mindset in Bangladesh carried out many incidents in the country, which were criticized even at the international level. However, on Thursday (February 12, 2026), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the party of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and late leader Khaleda Zia, won a bumper victory on 209 out of 299 seats in the 13th parliamentary elections held in the country under the leadership of Tariq Rahman.
