US and Israeli forces attacked Iran’s Assembly of Experts in Qom city of Iran. An expert assembly was convened to select the next supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, whose formal session was targeted in the airstrike. The channel also claimed that several members of the gathering were killed or injured.
According to Iran’s news agency Tasnim and a Telegram channel called Z TV, the country’s new supreme leader was to be selected at this very place on Tuesday (March 3), for which senior religious leaders had gathered. Even before this Israel carried out an air strike.
The post of supreme leader is vacant after the death of Khamenei
Let us tell you that under the Constitution of Iran, the Supreme Leader is selected for appointment and monitoring through the Assembly of Experts. The Assembly of Experts has 88 members, although at present no information has been revealed regarding the number of members in it. Let us tell you that Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in the attack on Saturday (28 February), the very first day of the war started by US-Israel on 28 February. After which the post of Supreme Leader is vacant.
Let us tell you that after the death of Khamenei, an interim leadership council has been formed in Iran. Which includes three members. The council includes Iranian President Masoud Pezheshkian, Supreme Court Chief Justice Ghulam Hossein Mohsani Ejai and Guardian Council member Ali Reza Arafi. Arafi has been selected for the post of jurist of the Interim Leadership Council.
According to the BBC report, if the supreme leader of the country dies, or resigns or is removed from the post, then an interim leadership council is formed. This has been mentioned in Article 111 of the Constitution of Iran.
Iran’s top leadership finished
Iran’s top leadership has been destroyed due to the US-Israeli attack. US President Trump has said in a conversation with American news channel ABC that most of the leaders who took power in Iran have been killed. The second and third level leadership has also ended. On Tuesday (3 March), Iran’s new Defense Minister Seyed Majid Ab al-Reza was also killed in the attack. Earlier, four members of Khamenei’s family were claimed to have died, including one of his daughters and a grandson.
