This round played between India and New Zealand was shocking for Indian cricket in many ways. While on one hand Team India is considered strong in home conditions, on the other hand, this time New Zealand gave a tough challenge to India in both ODI and Test formats and created history.
New Zealand’s dominance in ODI series
India started the three-match ODI series played earlier this year with a win in Vadodara. In the first ODI, India scored 306 runs and won the match by 4 wickets, restricting New Zealand to 300 runs. It seemed that Team India would capture the series, but after this the story changed completely.
In the second ODI played in Rajkot, New Zealand batted brilliantly and scored 286 runs by losing only 3 wickets in reply to India’s 284 runs and won by 7 wickets. After this, the decisive third ODI was played at Holkar Stadium in Indore, where New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs and won the series 2-1. Batting first, the Kiwi team scored 337 runs, while India was reduced to 296 runs. This was New Zealand’s first ODI series win in India.
India got a shock in the test series also
Even in the Test series played before the ODI, the circumstances were not in India’s favor. New Zealand clean swept India 3-0 in the three-Test series played in October-November 2024. In the Bengaluru Test, India collapsed for just 46 runs in the first innings, which was a shameful record in domestic cricket. After this, New Zealand maintained pressure in Pune and Mumbai also and won close matches.
