Ahmedabad plane crash: Air India aircraft going from Ahmedabad to London crashed after the take-off on Thursday afternoon. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), Air India flight AI-171 flew from runway 23 of Ahmedabad Airport at 1:39 pm Indian time. Soon after flying from runway 23, the aircraft fell to the ground outside the airport border and immediately after that black smoke was seen rising from the scene.
The aircraft crashed in the Meghaninagar IGP campus in Ahmedabad. At the time of the accident, 242 people, including 12 members of the cabin crew, were in the plane. The aircraft was operated by Captain Sumit Sabharwal, with the first officer Clive Kunder. Captain Sumit Sabharwal is an LTC and has an 8,200-hour flight experience, while the co-pilot had a 1,100-hour flight experience. There were 169 Indians, 53 British, 1 Canadian and 7 Portuguese citizens in the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad as a heartbreaking and said that we are shocked and unhappy with this.
