Air india receives gdp certificate: India’s major global airline Air India has received ‘Good Distribution Practices’ (GDP) certification for its cargo business. This certification is given on following international guidelines for safe, temperature controlled and high standard transport of medicines. Air India has become the first and only Indian airline to achieve this feat, and has joined the few companies in Asia which have received this recognition.
After getting GDP certification, Air India will now further strengthen its presence in the pharmaceutical sector. In the financial year 2024-25, Air India has transported more than 4,000 tonnes of medicines worldwide.
Air India cargo chief Ramesh Mamidala said, “India is a major drug exporter in the world, and this certification will give us confidence and credibility globally. We are committed to ensure the quality and safety of every shipment.”
Domestically, Air India’s GDP certified stations are in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore and Goa. The international network includes large gateways like New York, Newark, Chicago, London, Frankfurt, Paris and Amsterdam.
Air India has made several technical and process -procedural reforms in the region, such as the use of temperature controlled containers, the introduction of cool dolly, thermal blankets, and special training to the staff on the temperature control rules of IATA.
This certification will give a new height to the logistics capacity in the pharmaceutical sector of Air India, and will prove to be an important step towards making India a major air cargo hub.
