Ajit Pawar Plane Crash: A major accident took place near Baramati, Maharashtra. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s plane crashed and five people including Ajit Pawar died. Investigating agencies have started investigating the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, let us know whether there was a black box in Ajit Pawar’s plane or not.
Was there a black box in Ajit Pawar’s plane
The aircraft involved in the accident was a Learjet 45. There was a black box in it. It had both a flight data recorder and a cockpit voice recorder. It is being told that the investigation team has recovered the black box from the accident site. The device will also provide a recording of the cockpit conversation in the final moments before the crash along with important technical data such as speed, altitude, engine, performance and control inputs. From these details it will be known whether the accident occurred due to technical fault, weather conditions or human error.
What is a black box?
Although its name is black box but it is not black. It is painted bright orange so that it can be easily found in debris or difficult areas. Officially it is called flight recorder. Made of strong materials like titanium or hardened steel, this black box can withstand temperatures up to 1100 degrees Celsius and heavy impact forces. It is usually installed near the tail of the aircraft. This is because this part is more likely to remain intact during a crash.
two parts of the black box
There are two different systems in the black box. The flight data recorder captures technical parameters such as speed, altitude, fuel flow, engine condition and control status. Along with this, the cockpit voice recorder records the pilot’s conversation, warning alarms and background sounds of the cockpit.
Why don’t all private planes have black boxes?
It is not necessary for every private aircraft to have a black box. Very small aircraft with one to four seats face serious problems of space and weight. It is not possible to install a heavy and crash resistant recorder without affecting performance or safety.
Additionally, a standard black box system along with its certification and maintenance can cost more than $60,000. For small private aircraft this can be a large part of the total cost of the plane. In India, DGCA mandates black boxes primarily for commercial aircraft and large corporate jets.
