Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in the plane crash in Baramati. He spoke to Ajit Pawar’s uncle and NCP (SP) on phone and expressed his deep condolences to his family. Ajit Pawar’s funeral will be held on Thursday (January 29, 2026) at 11 am at Vidya Pratisthan, Baramati.

PM Narendra Modi said, ‘Ajit Pawar was a people’s leader who had strong connections at the grassroots level. He was highly respected as a hard-working personality who was at the forefront in serving the people of Maharashtra. His understanding of administrative matters and his passion for empowering the poor and the underprivileged were also praiseworthy. His untimely demise is very shocking and sad. Condolences to his family and countless fans.

Everyone on board the plane died

There has been a wave of mourning across the country due to the untimely demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in Baramati. CM Devendra Fadnavis announced three days of state mourning in the entire state. From January 28 to 30, all government offices and government functions will remain closed and the flag will remain at half mast. DGCA has confirmed that all five people on board the plane died, including Ajit Pawar, his security guard and the flight crew.

Ajit Pawar had left Mumbai for Baramati in the morning by private plane (Lear Jet 45) and was scheduled to participate in four public meetings in Baramati in view of the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. The accident occurred at around 8:45 am when the plane was landing on the runway of Baramati airport.

How did the accident happen?

There was a technical fault during landing, due to which the pilots lost control and the plane crashed into the edge of the runway. Immediately after the collision, the plane caught fire and within no time the entire machine was engulfed in flames. The fire department and local police immediately reached the spot and started rescue operations, but the fire was so severe that no one could be saved.
