Lucknow News: Samajwadi Party national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has expressed deep condolences on the destruction of thunderstorms, rains and storms across the state in the last three days. He said that in this natural disaster, more than 50 people have lost their lives so far, which is very painful. He has expressed condolences to the victim’s families and demanded immediate relief and compensation from the government.

Akhilesh Yadav said that strong thunderstorms and rains have caused heavy havoc in many districts of the state. Millions of people have been affected. Dozens of houses have fallen and many families have been destroyed. Dies have occurred in districts like Lucknow, Kanpur, Fatehpur, Meerut, Baghras, Hathras and Aligarh, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s home district. 17 people have died in 10-12 districts in and around Lucknow alone, while about 22 people have lost their lives in Kanpur and adjoining districts. In Fatehpur, 6 people have died and 4 deaths have come to light in Meerut-Baghpat in western UP.

Only announcements are not needed from the government, ground help- Akhilesh Yadav

Taking a dig at the BJP government, the former Chief Minister said that the victims do not get relief only by making announcements on paper. He said that the government should compensate the victims with full sensitivity and take quick steps towards rehabilitation. He said that the announcements of the BJP government often stay away from the ground truth. Whether it is farmer, poor or disaster victims, everyone gets only assurances, but no relief.

Akhilesh Yadav said that public interest and public welfare should be paramount in democracy, but the BJP government adopts discriminatory attitude. He said that even in the past years, even when there was flood, hailstorm or drought in the state, the government only gave paper help to the victims, while the reality was that most of the victims did not get relief.

The background needs rising meteorological crisis and sensitivity

Significantly, in the second fortnight of May in North India, the incidence of unusually strong thunderstorms, rain and lightning is increasing continuously. The Meteorological Department had already issued an alert that this time during May-June, strong winds and thunderstorms could occur due to western disturbances and local atmospheric instability. Despite this, the government’s preparation was insufficient, which the common people had to suffer as a loss of life and property.

Akhilesh Yadav has demanded from the government that quick relief camps should be organized in every affected district, adequate compensation should be ensured to the families of the deceased and proper treatment of the injured. Also, disaster management should be strengthened for the future, so that loss of life and property can be stopped in such incidents.
