During the Global Dialogue Conference held in Berlin, the capital of Germany, Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama made such an announcement, which surprised both the technical and political world. He said the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) minister, Diella, is pregnant and will soon give birth to 83 AI colleagues. Although the word pregnant was symbolic, it means that Deila is now building 83 new AI assistant modules, which will work closely with every MP of the Albanian Parliament.
Prime Minister Rama said that by 2026, all 83 members of Parliament will get their own AI assistant. These AI modules will record the entire proceedings of the session, prepare notes of the speeches and assist the MPs in policy-making. Rama said that if any MP misses any part of the session, this AI assistant will immediately give information about what was discussed and what answer has to be given. He told that the data and training of these AI assistants will be taken from Diala, that is, they will be digital children of Diala.
Who is DIAL and how does it work?
DIELA was appointed as Albania’s first AI Minister in September 2024. She appears as a virtual female avatar in traditional Albanian garb. Her name Diela symbolizes the sun in the Albanian language. In January 2024, it launched on the e-Albania platform, where it helps citizens obtain government services, documents, and permits online.
Steps towards corruption free administration
AD Rama said that the objective of DILA is not only to provide digital services, but also to give a new direction to transparency and honesty in the government system. DILA will now monitor the public procurement system. Every government tender, contract and funding will be under his control. Rama said that now no government deal will remain hidden. Citizens will be able to see where and how the money is being spent. The scope for corruption will end under Diala’s watch.
