Alert in Chhattisgarh/Jharkhand: In Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, an alert has been issued keeping in mind the cases of IED blasts and arms recovery in the major areas of the anti -Naxal operations. The officers provided this information. Officials said that there has been an increase in cases of IED being recovered and explosions when there has been an increase in security forces in Naxalites to meet the central government’s goal of eliminating leftist extremism (LWE) from the country by March 2026.

A senior security establishment official said, “To meet this goal, security forces are setting new camps in remote districts of Bastar region, especially Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. Maoists no longer join face-to-face encounters because they are lacking with weapons and ammunition so they are using IED more to kill or injured soldiers.

The official said that during the analysis of IED related events, their number has been seen “considerable” and hence the TCOC period has been issued a ‘high alert’ for security forces. Maoists run a strategic counter -aggressive campaign (TCOC) to attack against security forces during the summer months, as the forests dry up during this time and the leaves fall from the trees, which can keep the activities of the security forces far away.

The analysis report said that during 2020-22, the Naxalites had installed IEDs within three to seven kilometers of security forces camps, but now (2023-24) (2023-24) are being installed within three kilometers of CRPF or other forces camps. The report said that these incidents have increased by 25 percent during 2022-24 compared to 2020-2021.

FOB is a small but strong contingent of CRPF personnel, which works to cut the supply line of Naxalites. At the same time, not only campaigns in the affected areas but also communicates with the local people.

The anti -Naxal campaign grid is particularly ‘worried’ after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered a five kg pressure cooker IED from Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh last week.

Officials said that two empty beer bottles were installed in this RCIED (Remote Control IED), so that the soldiers could get serious injuries from the glass pieces. Along with this, a small antenna was also placed under a nearby tree, which was connected to the wire and could be exploded from far away.

He said that the CRPF IED party neutralized this IED. CRPF recovered the first such RCIED from under a bridge in Bijapur district in January. It was a 50 kg RCIED kept hidden under the ground. Officials said that the use of such ‘smart IED’ is expected to increase.

RCIED is considered fatal compared to ‘pressure trigger’ (by foot) or ‘command’ (which occurs by adding two wires) as Naxalites can explode from distance. According to official data, in 2024, 78 major IED blasts occurred in Chhattisgarh and weapons were recovered. Eight security personnel were killed in these blasts.

Officials said that these IED incidents in the state have crossed 100 by mid -March, which shows the increasing threat of Naxalites at a time when the security forces are campaigning between the March 2026 deadline. In the last one year, security forces have established more than 70 FOBs in both states, of which maximums have been created by CRPF. CRPF is the leading force to run an anti -Naxal campaign.
