However, the film was proved to be fuses at the box office and was also engulfed in many controversies after its release. In a recent interview, the director said that he has still not recovered from the failure of ‘Jigra’ at the box office. They have not even been able to buy a house for themselves.
Directors are unable to buy a house after Jigra flopped
Let me tell you that in a conversation with Cyrus Brocha, Vasan Bala said, “Jigra was a big shock at the box office. It really shakes you, and I am still awake. But (new) scripts are also in the process of recovery.” When asked if he was happy with the film during the shooting, Vasan said, “Yes, of course, I loved working with the crew, and also liked working with Alia. She is an amazing actress, she has an incredible work Ethi and Vision.”
He further said, “In this way you appreciate success when it is not with you. But not when you are trying to buy a house. Extra money does not harm any harm. I still live in a rented house,”
He further said, “Sometimes, can buy a house, but not a director. It’s a legitimate profession. However, after Jigra, I went back to Mani Ratnam’s set. I went for two days, just to stay around the film set, because I thought I would never go back.”
Jigra box office collection
Talking about the box office collection of Jigra, it had collected a net collection of 31.98 crores according to the data from Secondary in India and its gross collection was 38.43 crore. At the same time, the worldwide film earned 56.93 crores.
