On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump took a tough step on global trade and announced a heavy tariff on several countries simultaneously. He first announced the imposition of import duty on Algeria, Iraq, Libya, Sri Lanka (30%), Brunei, Moldova (25%) and Philippines (20%). Soon after, he also imposed a straight tariff of 50 percent on Brazil and called it the strict action ever. All these fees will be applicable from August 1. Brazil has also given its reaction to Trump’s tariff.
Trump imposed tariff and Brazil warns
A few hours after this announcement, Brazilian President Luiz Eneasio Lula Dr. Silva reacted sharply and warned the US of Economic Action. Silva bluntly said that if the US unilaterally increases the tariff on Brazil, Brazil will also take retaliation at the same level. Trump took this decision in the context of the behavior of former Brazilian President Zaier Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro is currently facing trial on charges of plotting coup.
