America has released its National Security Strategy during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India (4-5 December). The special thing is that in this strategy America has laid emphasis on strengthening relations with India. Also, instead of taking a stand alone against China in South China, it has been asked to cooperate with countries like India and Japan.
After Operation Sindoor (6-10 May), relations between India and America have turned sour. US President Donald Trump has once again taken the credit for ending the war between India and Pakistan in the National Security Strategy-2025.
Trump’s tariffs create rift between India and US
India has made it clear that Operation Sindoor was stopped on the request of Pakistan and not with the mediation of Trump. In such a situation, Trump had held India’s closeness to Russia responsible for the Ukraine war. Trump had expressed his displeasure over India buying oil and weapons from Russia. Angry Trump had imposed 50 percent tariff on India. Due to this, there appeared to be a rift in the relations between India and America.
America realized its mistake!
India responded to America’s anger with restraint and also maintained closeness with Russia. Strategic relations between India and Russia have become stronger due to Putin’s visit. From the new National Security Strategy it appears that America has understood its mistake and efforts are being made again to establish stronger relations with India.
The US National Strategy states that ending the war in Ukraine and building stable strategic relations with Russia is a priority. The special thing is that US President Donald Trump has cited India’s strong military and trade relations with Russia as a major reason for the Ukraine war not stopping. In such a situation, the world is surprised by America’s changed strategy.
America is troubled by China’s dominance
America is also feeling troubled by China’s increasing dominance in the Indo-Pacific region, but it is proving difficult for America to stop China on its own. This is the reason why cooperation has been expected from India in the National Security Strategy.

It has been said in the strategy that the world should not feel that NATO is doing its ‘expansion’. The real reason for Russia’s attack on Ukraine is actually considered to be NATO’s expansion.
