US President Donald Trump has announced a 25 percent extra tariff on India. It was said on behalf of Trump that India is constantly buying oil from Russia, due to which this decision was taken. This executive order of Trump will be applicable from 21 days after 21 August 2025. With this, the US has now imposed a total tariff on India. The initial fee will be effective from August 7 while the additional fee will be applicable from 21 days after August 27.
Trump’s tariff will be applicable from August 27
According to the order signed by Trump, the goods which have left before 27 August 2025 and will reach the US before 17 September 2025, will get exemption from tariff. The executive order clearly states that this tariff will be in addition to all other charges and taxes. However, it has also been said to be given exemption in certain cases. Trump has warned that if a country directly buys oil from Russia, then such action can also be taken on it.
Exemption will continue on special goods
Trump’s order states that the exemption on which was already being exempted from any specific reasons will continue. According to the executive order signed by Trump, some imports and investments were banned on 8 March 2022 due to Russia attacking Ukraine.
Trump had announced to increase tariffs in 24 hours
The US President had said in an interview to CNBC a day earlier that if India does not stop buying oil from Russia, he will increase the tariff on India in the next 24 hours. Trump had said that India is acting like fuel for war machine.
Russia made a statement in support of India
Russia issued a statement in support of India after Trump’s tariff threat. A Kremlin spokesperson had said that any sovereign country has the right to choose its business partner. He cannot be threatened with such. Dimitri Peskov had said, “It is illegal to force any country to close trade with Russia. Such pressure against Russia’s business partners will be understood as a threat.”
