Sergio Gore, nominated by President Donald Trump for the American ambassador in India, emphasized the strategic importance of New Delhi on Thursday (September 11, 2025) in front of the Senate Foreign Committee. He described India as the most important among countries around the world for America. He once again pledged to restore personal touch in India-US relation, deepen defense, trade and technology cooperation.
Gore insisted that India has more similarities with the US than China and we need India more as a close ally to combat Beijing’s expansionism. He said that India is one of the most important relations in the world for America. My priority will be to bring India firmly in its favor.
‘Our President’s deep friendship with Prime Minister Modi’
In his statement before the Senate Foreign Committee, Sergio Gore said that our President has a deep friendship with Prime Minister Modi and even when he has criticized India, he has left no stone unturned to praise Modi. Gore said that I will work towards President Trump’s ambitious target, called Mission 500, under which bilateral trade will be doubled to US $ 500 billion by 2030.
‘America-India can meet China’
Sergio Gore said that I will advocate such reforms, which will make India markets more accessible and transparent. China can be beaten in the fields of AI, Quantum and Semiconductor only through a reliable partnership of America-India. I will carry forward the AI action plan of this administration.
‘India cannot be underestimated’
He further said that if my appointment is confirmed, I will work to increase American energy exports to India. I will make America a leading supplier of oil and LNG. Gore said that India’s role in ensuring stability and safety of South Asia cannot be underestimated. The US-India partnership will decide the new definition of the 21st century.
