US President Donald Trump has been informed about a variety of military and secret weapons against Iran, which is much larger than normal air strikes. Apart from air strikes and long-range missiles, the Pentagon has also told Trump the options of cyber operations and psychological operations.
Protests against the government intensify in Iran
This information was given to CBS News by two Defense Department officials on the condition of anonymity. Anti-government protests have intensified in Iran. These operations are to disrupt Iran’s command structure, communications system and government media. Officials say that these cyber and psychological operations can be conducted simultaneously or separately with conventional military action.
However, officials did not specify which digital infrastructure of Iran might be targeted in the cyber attacks or how the psychological campaign would be conducted against state media. He stressed that no final decision has been taken yet and diplomatic channels remain open.
America is discussing strong options
President Trump has warned for weeks that the US could intervene if Iranian security forces killed protesters. On January 11, 2026, Trump told reporters that the Iranian leadership wants to talk, but the US military is considering ‘some very strong options’.
Today i.e. on January 13, 2026, Trump’s national security team will meet at the White House on Tuesday, where new options for Iran will be discussed. However, it is not clear whether Trump himself will attend this meeting or not.
Diplomacy is the first option for America
On January 12, 2026, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt said that the President is not afraid to use military options if necessary. He said, ‘Air strikes are one of the many options available to the Commander-in-Chief.’ Levitt stressed that diplomacy is always the first option, but what the Iranian regime is saying publicly is very different from private messages.
544 protesters died in Iran
Anti-government protests have been taking place in all 31 provinces of Iran for two weeks. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, at least 544 protesters have been killed. Most of the deaths have been caused by bullets or pellet guns at close range. Last week, internet and phone services were shut down in Tehran. On January 11, 2026, Iranian state media showed a video of a large number of dead bodies outside a morgue in an area of Tehran, perhaps in an attempt to show sympathy for the protesters and blame ‘radical elements’ for the violence.
