Chief Minister Nitish Kumar addressed an election meeting in Jamui amid the voting on 121 seats in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections on Thursday (6 November). He targeted the pre-2005 government. He said that before 2005, people used to hide in their homes as soon as the evening falls.

During his speech, CM Nitish Kumar said, “You all know that our government came to power on 24 November 2005 and has been in power for 20 years. In these 20 years, our government did development work in Bihar.”

‘People did not go out in the evening’

Taking aim at the previous governments, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, “The previous government had left the state in a very bad condition. People did not feel safe going out after the evening, communal clashes often took place.

‘Earlier education was limited’

He further said, “Education was limited, very few children studied and health services were inadequate. Roads were in poor condition and electricity was available in very few places. When our government came, we worked in the interest of everyone.”

‘Government is developing double engine’

CM Nitish Kumar also said in the election rally, “The double engine government is developing Bihar. There is no atmosphere of fear and terror in our government, there is an atmosphere of peace.”

He said, “Our government worked on education and health, new schools were opened. Started a bicycle scheme to bring children to school. Reinstated 2 lakh 58 thousand teachers. Earlier the health service was very poor, medicines were made free at health centres. The number of medical colleges was increased. New medical colleges are being built in 27 districts. Roads were built in rural areas.”

Referring to employment, the CM said, “Our government has given employment to 50 lakh youth. Now it has been decided that one crore youth will be given jobs in five years.”
