Amid speculations of leadership change in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge in Bengaluru on Saturday (22 November). After the meeting, Siddaramaiah said that the discussion took place regarding party organization, local body elections and the upcoming District Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections. He said, “There was no discussion about the cabinet. The leadership change is just speculation and it is a product of the media.”
According to news agency PTI, Siddaramaiah said, “Let the MLAs go, but whatever the high command says, we all will have to accept it. Be it me or DK Shivakumar, everyone will have to accept it.” Siddaramaiah did not make any promises on when the high command would take any decision and said, “Whatever decision is taken soon, I will follow it.”
Kharge called the Chief Minister to Delhi
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said that an intelligence report has indicated that the ongoing political deadlock in Karnataka is damaging the image of both the government and the party. Siddaramaiah reportedly briefed the high command in detail about the impact of political instability on governance. In response, Kharge invited the Chief Minister to Delhi to discuss the situation further.
Congress high command can take any decision
Siddaramaiah reaffirmed his commitment to the party and said that he will come to Delhi whenever he is called. Officials say he is likely to be in the national capital by the end of November. Party insiders said the high command is expected to take a decision soon on the current political scenario to stabilize governance and strengthen the party before the upcoming local elections.
HD Kumaraswamy targeted
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is attacking the Congress government regarding this entire matter. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy warned of explosive political developments in Karnataka, saying, “Such a situation has arisen in the state that it is impossible to say who will take what decisions in politics. There will be unexpected and explosive developments in the politics of the state.”
