Russia-Ukraine War is coming to 4 years. However, the situation still remains tense. The US President is constantly trying to bring the two countries to the table of peace talks simultaneously. He had separate conversations with the heads of Russia and Ukraine and now they are preparing to sit face to face. This initiative is considered very important in global politics, as western countries under the leadership of America are trying to control this struggle and restore regional stability. However, despite the efforts of America, the situation does not seem to come under control. Aerial and drone attacks continue from both sides of Russia and Ukraine. In such a situation, the question arises that despite repeated talks, when the concrete foundation of the ceasefire will be laid.
On August 21, Russia launched major attacks from missiles and drones in many areas of Ukraine. It also included regions of western Ukraine, which are far from the frontline. According to reports, the sound of loud blasts was heard in Rivane Oblast and the flying of Russia’s MiG-31 fighter jets was also confirmed. Shahid drones were also seen flying in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv. The air defense system became active at around 4 am and an attempt was made to stop the Russian drone.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia fired dozens of drones in Leev, Turnopil and Khamelnitski Oblast. The presence of drones in Live Oblast’s Jolochak district was confirmed by the local governor. These attacks of Russia make it clear that despite peace talks, military tension is not decreasing. Both sides are maintaining an aggressive stance on their respective fronts.
Russia’s security guarantee and challenge of western countries
Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov clearly stated that if the western country wants to give security guarantee to Ukraine, then it is mandatory for Russia to be included in this process. According to him, no security agreement will be imagined without including Russia and it will not have any practical impact. The statement came at a time when top officials of NATO countries were discussing Ukraine’s security guarantee and peace agreement at a virtual meeting. This attitude of Lavarov shows that Russia will not allow its role to be ignored. At the same time, America and western countries do not look ready to accept the terms of Russia. This is the reason why it is proving to be very difficult to agreed on the ceasefire.
Will the ceasefire be soon?
There have been many meetings between Russia and Ukraine in the last 3 years, but so far no one has guaranteed the ceasefire. Expectations have been raised from America’s active participation, but the latest situations are showing that military conflicts and diplomatic dialogue are going on simultaneously. Many experts believe that consent on ceasefire is not possible until both sides get the real political and safety guarantee. Russia will not back down from challenging the West and Ukraine will continue to fight for its existence. In such a situation, this war can be stretched longer.
