Us tariff row: A few days after US President Donald Trump’s announcement of tariffs on about 50 countries including India, there was a phone conversation between India Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday, 7 April. In which the two leaders discussed the bilateral trade agreement and the status of the Indo-Pacific sector.
Jaishankar told in a social media post that he and Rubio spoke on the importance of fulfilling the bilateral trade agreement as soon as possible. Both sides agreed that this trade agreement should be finalized quickly. This conversation has taken place at a time when America’s business representative Brandon Lynch has visited India and there has been a discussion about the trade agreement between the two countries.

Indo-Pacific and other global issues

Jaishankar and Rubio shared their views on the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, the Indian subcontinent, Europe, West Asia and the Caribbean region. America recently announced to impose counter tariffs
Trump has announced a counter tariff on all countries and partners under the ‘US First’ policy, which are putting tariffs on imported goods from the US. The aim of the Trump administration behind this decision is to reduce the trade deficit and promote the construction sector. The US has imposed 26 percent tariffs on India, which will be more of the already applicable fee. US officials say India imposes more tariffs on American goods and hence this fee has been imposed.
