In Bihar politics, Anant Singh’s name is associated with both power and controversy. People used to call this strong leader of Mokama as Chhote Sarkar, but now at the age of 64, he is known as “Dada”.
He is the JDU candidate in Bihar Assembly elections 2025. His competition is RJD candidate Veena Devi, who is the wife of Surajbhan Singh. Both of them come from powerful families, due to which this seat is considered the most interesting.
The violence in Mokama during the election campaign heated up the atmosphere. In this clash, 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav, who was said to be a supporter of Jan Suraj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, was killed. Anant Singh was directly accused of this incident and he was arrested.
Anant Singh’s wealth is a topic of discussion in Bihar. He rides in a Toyota Land Cruiser worth around ₹2.70 crore during the campaign. Many times he campaigns sitting on an elephant or horse, due to which his royal style is worth seeing.
Anant Singh’s net worth is reported to be ₹37.88 crore, while his wife Neelam Devi, who became MLA on an RJD ticket in 2020, has assets worth ₹62.72 crore. The assets of both together are worth more than ₹100 crore.
Anant Singh and his wife have a special fondness for expensive cars and jewellery. Singh has three luxury SUVs, while Neelam Devi also has three cars. Together, both of them have gold and silver jewelery worth about ₹ 91 lakh. Apart from this, they also rear horses, cows and elephants. According to his affidavit, the total value of the animals is approximately Rs 1.90 lakh.
Anant Singh has stated in his election affidavit that he has invested about Rs 10 crore in shares and bonds. Neelam Devi has also invested approximately ₹21 lakh. However, both of them also have a debt of more than ₹51 crore.
Anant Singh’s influence in the politics of Mokama has been there for three decades. He has been MLA five times so far and has 28 criminal cases registered against him. These include serious sections like murder, kidnapping and intimidation. When he was disqualified in the 2020 assembly elections, his wife Neelam Devi contested the election and won. Later he supported NDA.
In the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections 2025, voting will be held on Mokama seat on November 6. The atmosphere on this seat is tense after the Dularchand Yadav murder case. Now everyone’s eyes are on whether the small government Anant Singh is able to maintain his old hold or Veena Devi changes the equation of this strongman politics by giving him a tough competition.
