In the new cabinet announced by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Indian-Canadian Anita Anand and Maninder Sidhu have been given important departments. Anita Anand has been appointed Foreign Minister in the new cabinet announced on Tuesday (May 13, 2025), while Maninder Sidhu was made the International Business Minister.

Carney announced a new cabinet about two weeks after his Liberal Party’s victory in the Canadian general elections. A few months before the election, he took over as Prime Minister in place of Justin Trudeau. Anita Anand (58) was the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry before the election and before that she has held many positions including the Defense Minister. He has replaced Melani Jolie, who is now the Minister of Industries.

Anita Anand was in PM’s race ahead
Anand, who is considered one of the leading leaders involved in the race to be elected Prime Minister after Trudeau, announced in January that she is withdrawing from this match.
