Announcement of bonus to railway employees, but Railway Protection Force will not get its benefit! Learn why?

The central government has given a great news for railway employees on Wednesday. The cabinet has approved the productivity-linked bonus (PLB), which will be equal to 78 days’ salary. This decision will benefit about 10.91 lakh non-gajated railway employees. The total amount of this bonus has been fixed at Rs 1,865.68 crore, which will be a cause of enthusiasm and happiness for the employees, especially during the festive season.

The Railway Ministry said that under this bonus, track maintenors, loco pilots, train manager (guard), station master, supervisor, technician, technician helper, pointsman, ministry staff and other groups ‘C’ employees will be paid. Under this scheme, every eligible employee will get a bonus of up to Rs 17,951. But this time too, there was a special thing that employees of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) will not get the benefit of this scheme. Let’s know why?

Why RPF and RPSF are not getting benefit?

According to the officials of the Ministry of Railways, the PLB scheme has been made for non-gajated railway employees only. Its purpose is to encourage employees to their efficiency and performance. Whereas RPF and RPSF have the responsibilities of security and maintaining law and order. Their services are evaluated in a different way and a separate incentive scheme is applied to them.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this decision has been taken to recognize the good performance of railway employees in 2024-25. Last year, Railways loaded a record 1,614.90 million tonnes of freight and visited around 7.3 billion passenger. Paying of PLB motivates employees to perform better.

History of PLB Scheme

The PLB scheme is in force since 1979 and was launched to encourage the efficiency and performance of the employees. The 78-day formula adopted in 2010-11 represents the highest level bonus so far. Bonus is paid every year before Durga Puja and Dussehra.
