Municipal elections have been announced in Jharkhand. Voting will take place in the state on 23 February and counting of votes will take place on 27 February. This information has been given by the State Election Commission. The State Election Commission said in a press release – It is proposed to conduct general elections in a total of 48 municipalities under the state. In these 48 municipalities, there are 09 Municipal Corporations, 20 Municipal Councils and 19 Nagar Panchayats, out of which elections are to be held in 42 municipalities including the tenure of 06 newly formed municipalities.
The release said – Medininagar Municipal Corporation (Class-B), Hazaribagh Municipal Corporation (Class-B), Giridih Municipal Corporation (Class-B), Deoghar Municipal Corporation (Class-B), Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (Class-A), Chas Municipal Corporation (Class-B), Ranchi Municipal Corporation (Class-A), Adityapur Municipal Corporation (Class-B), Mango Municipal Corporation (Class-B), Garhwa Municipal Council (Class-B), Vishrampur Municipal Council (Class-B), Chatra Municipal Council. Elections will be held in (Class-B), Jhumritilaiya Municipal Council (Class-B), Madhupur Municipal Council (Class-B), Godda Municipal Council (Class-B), Sahebganj Municipal Council (Class-B), Pakur Municipal Council (Class-B), Dumka Municipal Council (Class-B), Mihijam Municipal Council (Class-B), Chirkunda Municipal Council (Class-B), Phusro Municipal Council (Class-B).
Along with this, Ramgarh Municipal Council (Class-A), Lohardaga Municipal Council (Class-B), Gumla Municipal Council (Class-B), Simdega Municipal Council (Class-B), Chakradharpur Municipal Council (Class-B), Chaibasa Municipal Council (Class-B), Kapali Municipal Council (Class-B), Jugsalai Municipal Council (Class-B), Shribanshidharnagar Nagar Panchayat, Majhiyan Nagar Panchayat, Hussainabad Nagar Panchayat, Hariharganj Nagar Panchayat, Chhatarpur Nagar. Panchayat, Latehar Nagar Panchayat, Koderma Nagar Panchayat, Domchanch Nagar Panchayat, Badkisariya Nagar Panchayat, Dhanwar Nagar Panchayat, Mahagama Nagar Panchayat, Rajmahal Nagar Panchayat, Barharwa Nagar Panchayat, Basukinath Nagar Panchayat, Jamtara Nagar Panchayat, Khunti Nagar Panchayat, Bundu Nagar Panchayat, Seraikela Nagar Panchayat and Chakulia Nagar Panchayat, in which general elections are proposed.
Jharkhand Elections 2026: When will nomination start?
The election process of Municipal General Election 2026 will be conducted as per the scheduled schedule. The election notice in Form-5 will be published by the District Election Officer (Municipality) on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 11:00 am. The nomination process will run from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily from Thursday, January 29, 2026, to Wednesday, February 4, 2026. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done in the same time period on Thursday, February 5, 2026. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is scheduled for Friday, 6 February 2026, which will be from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The release said that the allocation of election symbols will be done on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. If necessary, voting will be held from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, 23 February 2026. Counting of votes will start on Friday, 27 February 2026 at 8:00 am.
