The killings of Hindus are not stopping in Bangladesh. This is the sixth time in 18 days that a Hindu has been murdered. Mani Chakraborty, a grocery trader, was murdered in Charsindoor market of Narsingdi district on Monday (January 5) night. According to local sources, Chakraborty was attacked by unknown assailants while sitting at his shop in Palash upazila. During this, he suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital by the local people, but his life could not be saved.
Mani Chakraborty was a resident of Shibpur upazila. The traders of Charsindoor market described Mani as having a very peaceful nature, who had no disputes with anyone. His murder in the market has created fear among the minorities. Many traders say that now they are very scared and feel unsafe even in doing daily tasks. Hindus have demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and strict punishment.
Hindu killed by shooting
Earlier on Monday evening, another Hindu person was shot dead in public in Jashore district. This incident took place at Kopliya Bazaar in Ward No. 17 of Manirampur Upazila at around 5:45 pm. The deceased was the son of 45-year-old Rana Pratap Tushar Kanti Bairagi and was a resident of Arua village of Keshabpur upazila.
According to eyewitnesses and police, unknown assailants opened fire on Rana Pratap when he was in the market. He died on the spot. Policemen from Manirampur police station reached the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. Officer-in-charge Rajiullah Khan said that the police is present at the spot. Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the attackers.
Hindu businessman attacked with knife and set on fire
Last week, garment factory worker Dipu Chandra Das was lynched by a mob, while Amrit Mandal was also reported murdered in connection with the same unrest. Bajendra Biswas was shot dead in an attack in Mymensingh district. On 31 December, a mob attacked Hindu businessman Khokan Chandra Das with a knife and set him on fire near Keurbhanga market in Shariatpur district. He died during treatment at the National Burn Institute in Dhaka.
