General elections are to be held in India’s neighboring country Bangladesh, which is plagued by violence, in February next month. Currently, the largest party in the country is Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), whose leader Tariq Rahman has recently returned to his country. In such a situation, the Student Movement Party (NCP) has joined hands with the fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami for the upcoming elections.
Bangladesh elections have become interesting with NCP coming together with Jamaat-e-Islami. It is being told that the distribution of seats between the two parties has also been finalized. Let us tell you that both these parties are known for their anti-India agenda. In such a situation, now there will be a direct fight between Bangladesh Nationalist Party i.e. BNP and Jamaat alliance.
How many parties are included in the alliance of Jamaat and NCP?
Let us tell you that the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami led alliance has announced seat sharing on 253 seats before the parliamentary elections to be held on February 12. According to the alliance, Jamaat-e-Islami will contest on 179 seats, National Citizen Party (NCP) on 30 seats, Mamnuul Haq-led Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis on 20 seats, Khelafat Majlis on 10 seats, Liberal Democratic Party on seven seats, AB Party on three seats, while Nizam-e-Islami Party and Bangladesh Development Party on two seats each. But will field its candidates.
Islamic movement Bangladesh sidelined
This information was given by Jamaat’s Naib-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher in a press conference. However, Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB), an important ally of the alliance, boycotted this press conference. Despite this, 47 seats have been reserved for IAB in the alliance. According to Jamaat sources, if seats are also allotted to Bangladesh Khilafat Movement or JAGPA in future, the number of seats earmarked for IAB may be reduced.
