Ballistic missiles are capable of attacking at high speed over long distances. Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) can hit targets across continents. The ability to carry nuclear weapons, multiple warheads (MIRVs) and the technology to dodge missile defense systems make them the most dangerous weapons. Currently only a few countries have nuclear-capable ballistic missiles, which include Russia, US, China, France, UK, India, North Korea, Israel.
According to the Arms Control report, Russia currently has the RS-28 Sarmat, considered to be the world’s most powerful and long-range ballistic missile. It is also called Doomsday Missile. This missile can hit up to 18,000 kilometers and is capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads simultaneously. Its speed and technology are such that it can dodge even modern missile defense systems.
China and America are also not far behind
China’s DF-41 and America’s Trident II D5 missiles are also counted among the world’s most dangerous ICBMs. These missiles not only cover long distances, but are also capable of hitting targets with extreme accuracy. America and China are continuously upgrading their missile capabilities.
India’s Agni-5 increased strategic dominance
India’s Agni-5 ballistic missile is also included in the list of world’s top-10 ICBMs. This missile, with a range of about 7,000 to 8,000 kilometers, is an important basis of India’s strategic strength. Road-mobile launch system, high accuracy and the possibility of being equipped with MIRVs in the future makes it even more lethal. According to defense experts, Agni-5 gives India a strong strategic edge in Asia.
Which countries are on top, which are behind?
Russia, America and China are currently at the forefront in ballistic missile technology. India and North Korea are rapidly increasing their capabilities. At the same time, Pakistan and Iran are working on missile technology, but their missiles have not yet been included in the top category of ICBMs.
World’s most dangerous missile
America has a ballistic missile named Minuteman III. This is an important part of the American Nuclear Triad. Its speed is Mach 23. North Korea has a ballistic missile named Hwasong-15. Its range is 13,000 km. It is capable of targeting the entire mainland of America. Russia’s RS-24 Yars is a dangerous missile. Its range is 11,000 km. It can be launched from both mobile and silo. China’s JL-3 is a special type of submarine-launched ICBM. Its range is 10,000–12,000 km. France has M51 ICBM. Its range is 8,000–10,000 km. India’s Agni-V is also included in the top 10. Its range is 7,000–8,000 km. This is India’s most powerful missile in the ICBM category.
