Apple targets to make most iPhones for us in India, Donald Trump, Macbook

Apple, one of the big smartphone companies, is to manufacture most iPhones sold in the US in India. American President Donald Trump has imposed heavy tariffs on imports from China. Increasing manufacturing in India will make Apple easier to import iPhones in the US on low tariffs.

Bloomberg news Report In this, sources who are aware of the company’s plan have been told that for this, Apple will have to almost double the manufacturing of iPhone in India to more than eight crore units. In the last financial year, the company assembled more than four crore iPhones in the country. The US sells more than six crore iPhones per year. Stock of iPhones is being deposited in the US to avoid the tariff imposed on the import by Trump. However, Trump has excluded computers, smartphones and some other electronic products in tariffs imposed on import from China.

Apple representatives in India refused to comment on this. Apple stood first in the international sales of smartphones in the first quarter of this year. The company has benefited from increasing demand in India and Japan and launch of iPhone 16E. The company holds around 19 percent stake in the smartphone market. Apple sales have been flat or decreased in America, Europe and China. South Korea’s Samsung is in second place in the smartphone market with about 18 percent stake.

The iPhone stake in the export of smartphones from India has been about Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the last financial year. The manufacturing of iPhone has increased rapidly in the last few years in the country. Apple’s contract manufacturer FoxConn had assembled about 1.2 million iPhones in the country last year. The company’s affordable iPhone 16E launched in February has also started assembling in the country. It will replace the iPhone SE introduced about three years ago. China has a major stake in manufacturing iPhones. The company plans to start manufacturing airpods, macbook and iPad in India.
