DGP is the chief officer of law and order and internal security of the state. He reports to the state government and works directly under the home secretary and chief minister of the state. The main job of DGP is to monitor crime in the state, maintain law and order and operate the police force. They also deal with terrorism and serious state level crimes, but their responsibility is limited to their state only.
Who is more powerful?
While both the posts are extremely important in their respective fields, the Army General is considered more powerful than the DGP. The reason for this is that the Army General is responsible for the security of the entire country. He not only faces serious challenges like war and terrorism, but also plays an important role in the strategic decisions of the country. The responsibility of DGP is limited to the law and order of one state only.
Salary and allowances
Talking about the salary of both the posts, there is not much difference in it. Army General gets a monthly salary of Rs 2.5 lakh, while DGP gets Rs 2.25 lakh per month. Apart from this, both are given facilities like government accommodation, vehicle, security, medical facilities and high level pension. Army General also gets the benefit of Army Canteen as an additional facility.
