Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the International Arya Mahasammelan 2025 in New Delhi on Friday (31 October 2025). He said that Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji knew that if India has to progress, it will have to break not only the chains of slavery, but also the chains that shackled our society. PM Modi said that this is why Swami Dayanand Saraswati condemned casteism, untouchability and discrimination.
‘Arya Samaj did not get the respect it deserved’
PM Modi said, “The revolutionaries took inspiration from the Arya Samaj and dedicated everything. Due to political reasons, the Arya Samaj did not get the respect it deserved in the freedom struggle. From its inception till today, the Arya Samaj has been an organization of strong patriots. It has been an organization that expressed its views fearlessly. Whatever may be the foreign mentality, the Arya Samaj has always challenged it.”
PM Modi said, “Our India is special in many ways. This land, its civilization, its Vedic tradition have been immortal for ages. In any period, new challenges arise, when time asks new questions, some great personality incarnates. Some Maharishi shows a new direction to the society. Dayanand Saraswati was also a Maharishi of this tradition.”
Many revolutionaries took inspiration from Arya Samaj
He said, “Ideas had been replaced by vices. The British used to degrade our beliefs, by doing so they justified the slavery of India. In such difficult times, a young monk comes, does spiritual practice in the mountains and he shakes the Indian society stuck in inferiority complex. He re-awakened the suppressed consciousness. Revolutionaries like Lala Lajpat Rai and Ram Prasad Bismil took inspiration from Arya Samaj. Lee.”
‘Arya Samaj challenges foreign narrative’
PM Modi said, “He rejected those who adulterated our Vedas and scriptures, he challenged the foreign narrative and proved it through the tradition of scriptures. He knew that women have a role to play in building an individual or a society. He started a program to educate girls in Arya Samaj schools. Such daughters are strengthening the foundation of the nation in similar colleges of Arya Samaj. Just two days ago, our President Draupadi Murmu in Rafale.
