GST 2.0: After the implementation of GST 2.0 of the Government of India, where some things have become cheaper and the prices of some things have been increased. Similarly, there are many items, whose prices have not been changed. One of these is a smartphone. Earlier, 18 percent GST used to be used on the phone on mobile and GST will still continue at this rate. That is, consumers are not going to get the benefit of prices cut from September 22, 2025. From today onwards, new rates have been implemented under GST reforms across the country.
These items out of GST
In GST 2.0, along with making tax slab structure easier, the prices of those things have been reduced, which the common man of the country buys almost everyday. These include bread, butter, milk, ghee, butter and many other things. In this, electronics items like TV and air conditioner have also been given concession, but despite the use of mobile phones on a large scale in the country, 18 percent GST is still in force.
In such a situation, even though there is no change in mobile prices during the festive season, companies can offer different offers or deals to woo customers. Like mobile, no change has been made in GST rate on laptops. On this too, GST will be charged at the rate of 18 percent as before. Similarly, there will be no change in the prices of the washing machine. On this too, 18 percent GST will have to be paid as before.
Why not reduced the price of mobile and laptop?
The reason for not reducing the price of mobile and laptops in GST 2.0 is that companies making mobile and laptop are already taking advantage of the production incentive scheme (PLI), so they are kept in 18 percent slab after adjusting the expenditure on imports. Now by reducing more tax on these, it will be a loss deal for the government.
GST on gold and silver
The GST Council has not made any changes in the GST of 3 percent on gold and silver. That is, while shopping for gold and silver, you will have to pay 3 percent at jewelery rate and 5 percent GST on making charge.
