Tariq Rahman, the working president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and son of the country’s former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, returned to the country on Thursday (25 December) after 17 years. His supporters gave him a grand welcome at the airport itself. After returning to Bangladesh, Tariq Rahman spoke on phone to Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Mohammad Yunus and inquired about his health.
While talking to Yunus, BNP Working President Tariq Rehman expressed his gratitude for the arrangements made by the government for his security. Tariq appreciated the steps taken to ensure the safety of himself and his family.
Political activities intensify regarding upcoming elections in the country
According to sources, the phone conversation between Tariq Rehman and Mohammad Yunus took place in a cordial atmosphere, in which the current political situation and personal discussion took place. This conversation of Tariq Rehman has taken place at a time when he has returned to his country after 17 years of exile and political activities have intensified in the country regarding the upcoming general elections.
Tariq Rahman’s return to his country is being considered an important development in the politics of Bangladesh, while the interim government is being cautious regarding security and law and order. Tariq Rehman announced on Thursday (25 December 2025) that he will visit the grave of his father and former military ruler General Ziaur Rehman on Friday. This program will start in the afternoon after Friday prayers. Rahman will pray for the peace of his father’s soul at the Samadhi site in Dhaka. After paying tribute to the founder of the party, he will leave for the National Martyrs Memorial located in Savar. Where he will lay a wreath in honor of the martyrs of the 1971 liberation war.
