Sri Lanka has changed its previous team for the Asia Cup. Three years later, the middle -order batsman Janith Liange has been returned to the T20 format. Sri Lanka has become strong and balanced in the Asia Cup due to Liange’s joining.
30 -year -old Liange is known as a limited -overs expert, who has scored 824 runs in 28 ODIs, as well as three T20 international matches.
Lianaga recently impressed the ODI series against Zimbabwe in Harare, in which he scored an unbeaten 70 and 19 runs, making Sri Lanka a 2–0 clean sweep.
Liange played the last T20 against India in February 2022. He is with the team in Dubai.
With the involvement of Lianaga, the pool of Sri Lanka’s seam-balling all-rounders has become stronger. The team already has fast bowling all -rounders Dasun Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne.
Sri Lanka is placed in Group B along with Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. The 17 -member team led by Charith Asanka will launch their campaign against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on 13 September. After this, Sri Lanka will take on Hong Kong on 15 September and Afghanistan on 18 September.
Sri Lanka was the last Asia Cup winner in T20 format in 2022. Sri Lanka was the runner -up in the 2023 Asia Cup. After India (8 times), Sri Lanka (6 times) is the second most successful team of the Asia Cup.
