Shubman Gill has been included in the squad for the Asia Cup 2025 as a vice -captain. After the meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav announced the team at the press conference. Akshar Patel is also included in the team, but former cricketer Mohammad Kaif is unhappy when he is removed from the vice -captain.
This year, Akshar Patel was the vice-captain in the 5-match T20 series against England, this series was named by India 4–1. He took 6 wickets in this series. Shubman Gill has not played in T20 International for the last 1 year, but when he returned to the Asia Cup, he was elected vice -captain. This Mohammad Kaif did not like it, he said that it is expected that Akshar has already been told about it.
Kaif on the removal of Akshar Patel from the vice -captain
Mohammad Kaif wrote in a tweet, “I hope that Akshar Patel has already been informed about the removal of the vice -captain and it should not happen that he has received information about it in the press conference. The Akshar did not make any mistake, so he should get an explanation.”
I hope axar patel was informed about his removal from vice-businessy in advance and he didn Bollywood to know about it from the press conference. Axar did no wrong so he deserves an explanation. @akshar2026

Akshar Patel’s performance has been excellent, he is an important part of the T20 team. There is a possibility that he will also get a place in playing 11, as he not only does well in bowling and batting but is also a great fielder. Akshar played an important role in winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, he received the Player of the Match award in the semi -finals played against England. He took 3 wickets for 23 runs in his 4 overs spell.
Akshar Patel played a brilliant innings of 47 runs in 31 balls against South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup. He was then elected as the vice -captain of the T20 team but now he had to withdraw from the vice -captain after Shubman Gill returned.
