The Pakistan Cricket Board had demanded from the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the match referee Andy Picroft be removed from the Asia Cup 2025, but the ICC has officially rejected the demand. The Pakistan Board had also threatened that if this demand is not accepted, it would withdraw from the tournament.
On Sunday, September 14, there was a match between India and Pakistan, in which India registered a stunning win by 7 wickets. When the toss took place in this match, Suryakumar Yadav did not join hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga, nor did the team sheet change. Suryakumar Yadav told after the match that this was the decision of the entire team. On the question asked about not showing the spirit of the game, Suryakumar Yadav said that “some things are above the spirit of the game.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board is considering the conviction of this insulting and considering the referee Andy Paiyoft. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi wrote on the X account, “The match referee has complained to the ICC about the MCC Code of Conduct and Spirit of Cricket for MCC Law for Spirit of Cricket.
Will Pakistan be out of Asia Cup?
Due to any rule, Pakistan will not be out but the PCB had threatened that if the match referee was not removed, it would be removed from the tournament. Pakistan’s next match is decided on Wednesday (September 17) with UAE, now it will be interesting to see what Pakistan does after the ICC rejected the demand. If Pakistan is removed, the UAE team with India will qualify for Super-4.
