In the Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 8 runs in the match played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Afghanistan had a target of 155 runs to win. The Afghan team was reduced to 146 runs in 20 overs and lost the match by 8 runs. Afghanistan’s top order batsman Sedikullah Atal Zero and Ibrahim Jadaran were dismissed for 5 runs. The failure of both caused the defeat of the Afghanistan team.
Wicketkeeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the top scorer for 35 runs. Ajmatullah Umarjai scored 30 and captain Rashid Khan scored 20 runs. The remaining batsman could not face the bowlers of Bangladesh.
For Bangladesh, veteran fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman bowled well and took 3 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs. Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hussain took 2-2 wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 154 runs for 5 wickets, batting first after winning the toss. Openers Saif Hasan and Tanjid Hasan gave a strong start and added 63 runs in 6.4 overs for the first wicket. Saif Hasan was dismissed for 30 runs off 28 balls. Tanjid Hasan was dismissed for 52 runs with the help of 3 sixes and 4 fours off 31 balls. Captain Litton Das was dismissed for 9 balls 9, Shamim Hussain 11 balls 11 and Tauheed Hrdoy scored 26 off 20 balls. Jaaker Ali and Nurul Hasan scored an unbeaten 12-12 runs.
Captain Rashid Khan bowled brilliantly for Afghanistan and took 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Noor Ahmed also took 2 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. Umjarai took 1 wicket.
