Abhishek Nair, former assistant coach of the Indian cricket team, is unable to understand why Shreyas Iyer has been excluded from the Asia Cup team. The BCCI has announced a 15 -member team for this tournament on Tuesday.
Abhishek Nair said on ‘Geographstar’, “I do not understand what could be the reason for not being included in Shreyas Iyer in the 20 -member team. I am not talking about the last 15, but I am talking about 20, which clearly sends the message that Shreyas Iyer is not in the selectors’ plans, not from the least T20 format view.”
The selectors have included Test team captain Shubman Gill in the Asia Cup team. Shubman Gill has not played T20 matches since July 2024. In such a situation, Gill’s selection surprised everyone.
Shreyas Iyer performed brilliantly in IPL-2025. He scored 604 runs in 17 matches of the season with an average of 50.33. During this, six half -centuries came out of his bat. Under his captaincy, Punjab Kings reached the final of IPL 2025.
However, Shubman Gill’s performance in IPL 2025 was also excellent. He scored 650 runs in 15 matches with an average of 155.88, including six half -centuries.
Shubman Gill has played 21 T20 matches for India, scoring 578 runs with an average of 30.42. Gill is one of the selected Indian players who scored a century in three formats.
Under the captaincy of Gill, India equaled 2–2 in the Test series of five matches on the tour of England. He has been elected as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the Asia Cup.
