Administrative preparations for the assembly elections in Assam have intensified. In this sequence, the state government has decided to declare April 9 as a public holiday. According to the official notification, government and non-government offices as well as educational institutions, urban local bodies, banks and all commercial establishments will remain closed on the day of voting.
In the notification issued by MS Manivann, Commissioner and Secretary of the General Administration Department, it has been said that this public holiday has been declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Its objective is to give voters the opportunity to participate in the voting process without any hindrance.
Notification of Labor Welfare Department
Along with this, the Labor Welfare Department has also issued a separate notification and clarified that on April 9, there will be a paid holiday in all factories, tea gardens, shops and public entertainment or entertainment establishments. This will provide time to lakhs of workers and employees to participate in voting. Voting for the 126-member assembly of Assam will be held on this day, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4. Both the Election Commission and the state administration are making special efforts to increase the voting percentage. Announcement of holiday is being considered an important part of this strategy.
