Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday announced five guarantees of his party for the electoral state of Assam. In this, emphasis has been laid on women’s welfare, healthcare for all, land rights and justice in Zubin Garg death case. Kharge also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the state, accusing it of indulging in corruption on a large scale and working to fill the coffers of its leaders and their families.
Addressing a rally in Naoboicha in Lakhimpur district, Kharge enumerated five guarantees of the party. This includes monthly assistance to women as well as additional assistance of Rs 50,000 to women wishing to establish or expand a business.
He said that the distribution of the amount will be unconditional. This will not be like what the BJP government is doing. While women are asked to become members of their party, the Congress, which is trying to return to power, has promised a cashless health insurance scheme of Rs 25 lakh for all families, permanent land leases for 10 lakh tribal people and Rs 1,250 per month for senior citizens of the state.
Will ensure justice within 100 days in Zubin Garg’s death case: Kharge
Kharge said a special department would also be set up to look after matters related to the elderly. If Congress comes to power, we also pledge to ensure justice within 100 days in the case of singer Zubin Garg’s death. He said the party will focus on the needs of every section of the society including youth, farmers, small entrepreneurs, tea garden workers and women. Kharge said that his party will fulfill all the promises made to the people of Assam.
He said that the Congress governments in Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh have implemented all their election promises. The Congress President claimed that family members of the ruling party leaders are also involved in this. He alleged that only one family in Assam has 12,000 bighas of land. The land was given to Adani and Ramdev. Government land is being looted.
40 thieves of Alibaba need to be stopped: Kharge
Kharge said that Ali Baba and his 40 thieves have to be stopped. Ali Baba is sitting in Delhi, while his 40 thieves are spread at different places. He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for seeking support for such a corrupt government. Taking aim at Modi over his visit to caste-conflict-hit Manipur, Kharge said it was Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who visited the violence-hit state to meet the people.
Sarma is a fake Chief Minister, Kharge targeted
Taking aim at Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma, Kharge said that he is a fake Chief Minister, because BJP had fought the 2021 elections under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal. But after the elections, Sharma usurped the post of Chief Minister of Assam by removing tribal leader Sonowal, he claimed.
Referring to Sarma’s past association with Congress, Kharge said that he grew up with us, but he betrayed us. Such a person should not vote for anyone. Kharge said that he is a young leader with whom I have worked and whose image is impeccable.
