The Assam Police has arrested Shyamakanu Mahant, the chief organizer of the North East India Festival (NEIF) in the case of the death of famous singer Zubin Garg in Singapore and Siddharth Sharma, manager of the singer. The police gave this information on Wednesday (October 1).
According to news agency PTI, Mahant was arrested from Singapore at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, while Sharma was arrested from an apartment in Gurugram. A senior police official said that both were brought to Guwahati on Wednesday morning and kept in custody for further investigation.
Assam government had ordered an inquiry
On September 19, the Assam government formed a 10 -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of Special Director General of Police MP Gupta to investigate the case of singer’s death in Singapore. The SIT issued notice to Mahant, Sharma and others who went to Singapore, in which they were called to cooperate in the investigation and record their statements.
Chief Minister Himant Vishwa Sharma had earlier said that a ‘lookout notice’ was issued against Mahant and Sharma through Interpol. In this notice, he was asked to appear before the Crime Investigation Department (CID) by 6 October.
Documents and other material seized
According to police sources, after the arrest, documents and other materials related to the case have also been seized. The investigation team is investigating the case deeply and is trying to find out which security standards were not followed in organizing the festival at the time of Zubin Garg’s death.
This case has created anxiety and stir between the entertainment world and fans. Fans of Zubin Garg are demanding justice and it is expected that the SIT will soon highlight other aspects of the case. The Assam Police says that in further investigation, it will be clarified whether there is any negligence or irregularity in the death of the deceased singer, and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
