QR Code Scam: Nowadays people in the country are using everything online. Earlier people used to carry cash in their pockets for payment. But now the atmosphere has completely changed. Now people make payment through online system. There are many UPI apps available for this. People mostly make payments through QR code. QR code payment made transactions very easy, fast and convenient.
If seen, UPI system has become a safe means of payment today. But some fraudsters find ways to commit fraud by taking advantage of small loopholes in the system or by misleading innocent people. One such scam is becoming quite viral on social media these days. In which an auto driver scammed a person. Know how you can avoid this scam.
Instead of Rs 1500, Rs 15,000 were withdrawn from the account.
A video viral on social media showed how instead of Rs 1500, Rs 15000 can be deducted from the account. If care is not taken while making payment. Content creator Sanket Prakash Khandagle explained this method easily through a fictional story so that people should be careful.
In this video it is told how a person scans the QR code of an autowala. Which contains Rs 1500. But in that, Rs 15,000 is deducted from the person’s account. Normally when the user himself enters the amount manually on the mobile. Then this kind of scam does not happen. But in a hurry, not looking at the phone screen properly and confirming the payment without checking, the money gets deducted.
How does a scam happen?
In this viral video, it can be clearly seen how a person gets down from the auto and pays Rs 150, but Rs 15000 is deducted from his account. Its complete method is explained in the video. In this, the person scans the QR code of the auto driver. Actually QR is not for payment.
Rather the payment request is approved. Let us tell you that all QRs are not just for taking money. There are also some QRs which send requests for payment. If any request like collect, pay or approve is ever seen on the screen. So one should not confirm without reading.
Protect yourself in these ways
This viral video has been shared on Instagram with an account named @spiktec_. It is told in it that if ever a vegetable seller, auto driver or delivery boy asks you to make quick payment. So always after scanning the QR, check the screen to see if the approval request is written on it. Because if you click on it and enter the UPI PIN. So that request gets accepted. And just as Rs 15,000 were deducted instead of Rs 1,500 in the video, similarly it can also be deducted from your account.
