A Kashmir resident, who was detained for allegedly trying to offer Namaz in the Ram temple complex in Ayodhya, has been handed over to his family by the police after he was found to be ‘mentally ill’. Superintendent of Police (City) Chakrapani Tripathi said that the family of the detained person Ahmed Shaikh had claimed that he was mentally ill.
SP said that they had also shown his medical reports as evidence. After this, Sheikh was handed over to his family on Sunday (11 January 2026). He told that Sheikh is a resident of Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sheikh, a Kashmiri man, was detained on Friday after security personnel allegedly saw him preparing to offer namaz inside the temple premises. Sheikh’s family members had reached Ayodhya from Kashmir on Saturday (January 10) and told the police that he was suffering from mental illness. He also showed medical documents to support his claim.
Some Kashmiri youth selling shawls were also interrogated – SP
SP Chakrapani Tripathi further said that as part of the investigation, some Kashmiri youth selling shawls in Ayodhya were also interrogated. He said, ‘In the investigation, no objectionable material was found from the Kashmiri youth selling shawls. His address was verified. They were later released with their belongings. Senior police officials said that security agencies are on alert.
