Bangladesh Politics: Tension between the army and student leaders is increasing in Bangladesh amid the ongoing movement to remove Sheikh Hasina from power. Hasanat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the newly formed ethnic citizen party (NCP), has made a big claim about Army Chief General Waqar Ujman. According to Hasanat, General Zaman was not keen to appoint Nobel Prize winner Mohammad Yunus as consultants.
In a viral video, Hasanat Abdullah said that the army chief questioned Mohammad Yunus’s credibility and did not consider him suitable for this role. General Zaman also said that Yunus was not the right person for this responsibility, despite Yunus being a Nobel Prize winner and his reformist image. The army chief had emphasized the need to hand over the reins of the country to the right hands.
Conspiracy against army chief Zaman
Differences between Lieutenant General Mohammad Faizur Rahman and Army Chief General Waqar Ujman have also complicated the situation. Under the leadership of Faizur Rahman, the anti -bail generals had tried to remove him from the post, but he failed. General Zaman is seen as a pro -India and balanced leadership, due to which the army’s professional rank is standing in his support.
Please tell that there are two groups inside the Bangladesh army. One faction supports organizations such as Jamaat-e-Islami, while the other is associated with Awami League. The stress that emerged between these groups has given deeper the differences inside the army, causing the situation to become unstable.
BNP alliance with army
Meanwhile, there were reports that Lieutenant General Faizur Rahman has been placed under house arrest. Faizur Rahman is alleged to have met the Pakistani ISI Chief, which is being considered a conspiracy against the army chief Zaman. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has termed these incidents a conspiracy to postpone the election and an attempt to defame the army.
