National elections are to be held in Bangladesh in February, due to which political activities have intensified. In view of this, the return of Tariq Rahman, the working president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and son of the country’s former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, is being considered very important. Due to BNP being the largest party in Bangladesh, efforts for alliance among other parties have intensified.
Talks are going on for an alliance between Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party (NCP). It is believed that a consensus has almost been reached on forming an alliance. At present, talks are going on between both the parties regarding seat sharing. Let us tell you that both these parties of Bangladesh are known for their anti-India agenda.
Jamaat and NCP are against India
Jamaat-e-Islami works as a stooge of Pakistan in Bangladesh and has been opposing India since the beginning. Whereas NCP has been formed by the student leaders who agitated against Sheikh Hasina last year. The leaders of this party have also been making statements against India since the beginning.
According to Prothomolo’s report, the NCP formed last year wants to contest the elections in alliance with an old political party. For this, the party leaders first tried to form an alliance with BNP, but the matter got stuck on seat sharing. After this the Jamaat was contacted and this time the talks are progressing. The report says that a section of NCP is against the alliance with Jamaat. He says that after Tariq Rahman returns to Bangladesh, talks should be held once again with BNP.
Agreed on seat sharing with Jamaat
NCP leaders said that the party’s top leadership has held talks with senior Jamaat leaders regarding seat-sharing. It is being told that NCP had initially demanded 50 seats, but after talks it agreed to 30 seats. The party will not field candidates on the remaining seats. She will support Jamaat candidates on these seats.
Let us tell you that earlier on December 7, NCP, Amar Bangladesh Party and Bangladesh State Reform Movement had formed an alliance under the banner of Democratic Reform Alliance. Now NCP is trying to compromise with BNP or Jamaat.
