Many people died in a horrific accident on Tuesday (14 October 2025) in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. This accident occurred due to fire in a four-storey garment factory and a chemical warehouse located nearby. According to officials, at least 16 workers died and many others were seriously injured in the fire. On the matter, Fire Service and Civil Defense official Talha bin Jasim said that the fire started from Shah Alam Chemical Warehouse, which immediately spread to the nearby Enar Fashion Garment Factory. The fire was so intense that within a few minutes the entire building was engulfed in flames.
Fire service spokesperson Anwarul Islam said that rescue teams have so far recovered 16 bodies from the garment factory alone. The fire has been extinguished from part of the factory. Director of Fire Service, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chaudhary said that according to me, it started with a chemical blast, due to which the poisonous gas spread rapidly and many workers immediately became unconscious and died. He said that 6 to 7 types of dangerous chemicals were kept in the factory. Due to these the fire went out of control and the situation became extremely toxic.
The dead will be identified through DNA test
The condition of the bodies of the deceased is so horrific that their identification is not normally possible. Authorities have sent all the bodies to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where they will be identified through DNA test. Fire Service Chief Chaudhary said that most of the workers were trapped between the second and third floors. The way to the roof was closed with two locks, due to which they could not get out. The roof was made of tin and tiles, which collapsed immediately due to the heat. In this incident, many workers died due to suffocation due to poisonous gas and lack of oxygen.
Support of drones and modern technology
12 units of the fire service together reached the spot 16 minutes after the information was received at 11:40 am, i.e. at 11:56 am and started the relief work. Rescue teams used drone cameras and loop monitoring systems to control the fire. However, the team is still facing difficulty in entering the chemical warehouse due to flammable chemicals present in it. Officials say the fire is breaking out again and again.
Yunus government’s statement and instructions
Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus expressed deep grief over this incident. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and said, “This incident is very sad.” We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” Yunus has directed the concerned officials to prepare a full investigation report into the fire and immediately provide financial and medical assistance to the affected families.
