Today Bangladesh Cricket Board is trying to wink at BCCI, but it has forgotten that it was the Indian Cricket Board that gave them Test status. Otherwise no one even wanted to play cricket with them, then India helped them by playing the first test with the neighboring country. Under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, Team India won this test by 9 wickets. There were also star players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan etc.
India helped Bangladesh in getting test status
Jagmohan Dalmiya, who was the chief of BCCI, was the chief of ICC in 2000. He got Test status for Bangladesh by getting unanimous voting. No one was playing Test matches with him, when the Indian cricket team played the first Test with him.
BCCI also helped him in this. It started with the 1999 ODI World Cup. Here Bangladesh was playing in this big tournament for the first time. They registered their first win by defeating Scotland. After this, they also created a big upset by defeating Pakistan, one of the favorite teams of that edition. This was one reason, but full emphasis was given by former BCCI President and then ICC Chief Jagmohan Dalmiya. In 2000, he helped Bangladesh become the 10th nation to achieve Test playing status by unanimous vote.
England was to have a test with Bangladesh, but they refused to play it citing reasons. Then India played Test with Bangladesh and got them Test status. This test was played in Dhaka on 10-13 November, in which India won by 9 wickets.
Why is the controversy happening now?
When there was rapid protest in India against the atrocities being committed on Hindus in Bangladesh, it also affected IPL. Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman was bought by KKR for Rs 9.20 crore, due to which there was opposition from KKR and team owner Shahrukh Khan, then BCCI directed to release Mustafizur.
BCB called an emergency meeting and decided that it would request to shift its T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka. Bangladesh also banned live telecast of IPL matches.
