Bangladesh India Illegal migrants: Bangladesh’s Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chaudhary made a big statement on Saturday (May 17, 2025). He made it clear that Indian citizens living illegally in his country will be sent back to India through proper diplomatic process.
The statement of the interim government of Bangladesh has come at a time when India has started identifying the illegal Bangladeshi citizens present here. In this way, Mohammad Yunus has made up his mind to take action on people living illegally by following the footsteps of India.
Bangladesh’s Home Advisor said, ‘We do not adopt a policy of pressurizing like India. We believe in diplomacy. A letter has already been sent to India by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry regarding this issue. The National Security Advisor of the country and representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs are in constant communication with India.
Neither infiltration, need repatriation under the procedure
Chaudhary said, ‘We want India to catch an illegal Bangladeshi in our country, then return it through proper mediums. Similarly, if an Indian is living illegally in Bangladesh, it will also be sent to India by the same process. He also claimed that recently an attempt was made by India to forcibly insert some persons on the Brahmanbaria border, but the effort was thwarted with the help of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar force and local residents.
Illegal intruders continue to arrest in India
In India these days, the campaign has been intensified regarding the identity and arrest of illegal migrants. In particular, police have detained hundreds of Bangladeshi citizens in states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat. The investigation found that many of these migrants were living in India without passport or visa and in some cases fake documents were also used. After completing the relevant judicial process, Bangladesh is being rejected.
Set up intruders, not refugees
There is no clear policy for refugees in India and those who cross the border illegally are often considered “illegal intruders”. In such cases action is taken under the Foreign Citizens Act, 1946. This is the same legal process under which the Supreme Court has also repeatedly clarified that the intrusion is not a valid refuge and if a person is found without valid documents, it should be sent back to the law.
